Making Marble Suncatchers

In my last post I shared with you our little garden space. Today, I would be sharing the marble sun catcher which I made for this space. It was a bit of an experiment for me. I started by making only one as a start.
All you need is
1) PVA Glue
2) Marbles
3) Clear foil
4 ) A ring or a cake mould

Firstly, spread the clear foil over a surface. Choose a surface where it has to dry undisturbed for about 48hrs.
Now place the cake mold over the clear foil. Add PVA glue and spread evenly throughout the Cake Mold. Now evenly place the marbles onto the PVA glue. We choose green and white ones.

Now all you have to do is to wait for this to dry. Our Sun Catcher needed about 48hr to dry completely. After it is completely dried, You can make a small hole into the section between the marbles. Hang it using white cotton yarn.Your Sun catcher is ready.

7 Tips for making a window sill garden

Fact 1# Can't get enough of our window sill garden
I am too excited today to share with you the developments on my window sill garden. As you all know I have been working endlessly on our little window sill garden. I promised long ago that I would share the new developments on my garden. Two months ago it all started with theWindow sill garden on a little window on my seventh floor apartment. Then we make a small world with egg cartons adding a splash of color to our space. We also added a fairy swing for the fairies. Rest of the developments  went slower than what I expected but I am quite happy with the new elements we are adding to this beautiful space.

I am sharing with you 7 Tips for making a window sill garden. I hope you like our little space.

Tip 1# The light and shade
Observe the little space that you have and consider the amount of sunshine this space gets. Since its a dry season presently here in Mumbai, India. I added the painted egg carton to give shade to the fairy garden in which we planted wood sorrel and mosses. These plants need shade and plenty of water to grow.

Tip 2# Sun catchers
We made this beautiful sun catcher with marbles and PVA glue. A tutorial to follow soon. The suncatchers add a mystic element to these spaces.  Sun catchers are absolutely must for the garden spaces.

Tip 3# The whistling winds
Nothing is more soothing than a gentle sound of a wind chime. It is a must of the soothing and calming environment at the window sill garden.

 Tip 4# The flowering garden
Its always recommended to add some flowering plants at your garden. It totally lift up the space. This tip was shared by Ali from At home with Ali. I am grateful to her for giving her valuable suggestions and input while I was planning this space. Here is a picture of blossoms from our garden.

Tip 5# Keeping the tools handy
The tools should be kept handy in the garden. Our tool box includes gardening tools like shovel, Spray bottle, watering cans, a small brush to clean the spaces, gloves and a towel to clean the hands.

Tip 6# Try little wind mills
I love wind mills made of colorful papers. They are a favorite part of my little garden.

Tip 7# A little name board
We added a Name plate with our daughters name to our garden. M loves this personalization and she has become a nurturer of this garden.

 Blissful Sunday!

Welcoming our light table.

One of my Summer agenda was to get a light table for M's Room. This is a simple Light table I got made from my carpenter. M is not very found of it yet but I plan to organize more and more activities around the light table. I simply love it. I found these lovely tea light holders in different colors and M enjoyed playing around with them on the light table.

5 Tips for enacting a storybook and our little Play.

Alas! I am back from a long vacation. Before I share my beautiful experiences through a dedicated post. I decided to first write a little fun activity we did just today. M loves her storybooks and I truly enjoy reading them to her. Last month we tried making some artwork inspired by the storybook illustration. I also shared some tips for drawing inspiration from storybooks. If you would like to recall my post. See here.

Moving on, this time we tried enacting our little story through toys as props. This story is " The Land of Toys". Its about taking care of our toys. The little boy Ken is bored with his old toys. While he is sleeping all his toys decides to leave and go to the land of toys. Ken woke up and sees his toys disappear through the door. He follows them and reaches the magical world of toys. Where he rescues his toys from the gang of evil toys. This is a little brief about the storybook originally written by Keiki  Yoshida.
Here is how we enacted the story.
Scene 1: Ken's Room and his toys.
That is  Ken's Bed room
Ken throws his toys around the room shouting Boring Bear! Boring Robot! His mother comes into the room and says- " But those toys are new , Ken!". "They are boring! I want new toys." Says Ken.

When Ken is sleeping. The toys talk to each other saying" Why doesn't Ken want us any more? " and decided to leave.

An angry Robot throws a wooden bead at Ken. He wakes up with a start. All his toys have disappeared.
Ken follows them and find three building block. As he touches each block, his body becomes smaller. He is Shrinking.
Scene 2: He opens the door and reaches a magical place with enchanting music. A Horse welcomes him-" welcome to the Land of Toys!"
Ken Says sorry to his toys and rescues them. They all ride in the toy cart and come back home.
The original story has more detailing and characters. We both enjoyed enacting our favorite storybook with our own toys. Here I am sharing some Tips for enacting a storybook from my experimentation.

1# Choosing a Story
For us this play idea came instantly as this story is one of our favorite read along story. You can chosse any story that your kid loves and would want to hear over and over again.

2#Give Voices to the characters
While you read the story to your kid, try giving them voices and styles. M loves the dialogs and imitates my voice tone while I am reading this story to her. These vices will tell kids more about the character.

3# Arrange a setting
Try to focus on the various scenes of the story. for example there are two basic scene setting in this story- Ken's bedroom and the magical land of toys. These setting can be developed in consultation with your child which makes it even more fun.

4# Let the kids narrate
Start by prompting how the story starts and let them take lead in how the story goes. I was surprise to hear the exact dialogs that M was reciting to be precisely how it is written in the book. They actually pay attention!

5#Moral of the story
It is always a good idea to discuss the characters and their actions in the end. After reading this story, I always tell M to take care of her toys as they might go to the Land of Toys while she is sleeping. Enacting the story gives them a better understanding of the morals behind the story.

I hope you enjoyed our little narration. I would to hear your ideas on how you make the storytime interesting. Please leave a comment below.

Little fun while working

Did you take your kids to work? I don't but we have been going to office together lately. That is M and Me. Luckily, I work for my Dad's firm and our office is a second home for M. We do get some time off in between to play and I am sharing the fun we had today.
First, we did some watermelon maths with toothpicks. We picked up one water melon piece, 2 for two watermelon cube, 3 for three watermelon cube and then we ate them all.

We played on the stairs. We took turn to step down the stairs. I am stand on the top of the stairs and M is pointing the number of steps I should come down by showing that many fingers. If she shows 2 fingers, I would step down two stair. Similarly it was M's turn. This is a nice activity for number recognition and quantities.
M waters the plants everyday at my office. She is learning to take care of the plants and also having loads of fun along the way.
She even played with muddy water from the garden pots making mud pies. Who could have guessed that Office can be so much fun too.

Little joys of parenting#5 When I grow up...

The grandfathers and the grandmothers of the world must have asked a impending question to their grandchildren atleast once. The question is - What you want to become when you grow up? The same question was asked at our place too.
Nanu- What you want to become when you grow up?
M- ammm(takes a brief pause)...I don't want to become an Astronaut. I want to become a Chef!

Oh! Really you took quite some time to figure that out. Didn't you.
Mommy lesson: More felt food, menu cards and playdough preparations underway.
Did I mention a Mud Pie kitchen?

My little one's ambition at three! I don't remmeber what I wanted to be as kid. Must ask my parents tommorow morning. Good night for now.

The Assorted jewel shakers and sensory play

I am on a brief vacation at my native place and becoming all nostalgic about the wonderful childhood I spend with my siblings. Every girls best friend is her sister. I share a beautiful bond with mine. So this post is dedicated to my little sister who is truly special to me.

M is my only kid and back home she misses this amazing bond that a girl shares with her sister. This is a reunion of two sisters- M ( 3yrs ) and N( 4yrs). Little N is my brother's daughter. These two girls can't have enough of each other. For both of these lovely girls I setup a play-date with all the girly things. The glitters, jewels, beads and play dough.
The girls got all excited and started filling their plastic glasses with assorted jewels.Next was our innovative idea of converting these into musical shakers. I tried sticking two plastic cups with a craft glue and left it to dry. The girls patience was running out so I used play dough to hold both the glasses together. Next was our musical session. N decided to add some decoration to her shakers. They both added the flowers to decorate their shakers.

We tried to stick the glasses by using craft glue.

The play dough was the life saver as the girls didn't want to wait.

Little joys of parenting #4 The shopping demand

I am vacationing at my parents house nowadays. My sister and mom took M out for shopping. When they usually take her out, her wish is their command. They get so excited to buy her clothes, shoes, toys and whatever they can find in her size. Now a child doesn't want all those fancy things but only a thing that they fancy about. After she was shown numerous outfits and accessories, she gently pointed out- "I don't want any clothes nani, just buy me two shoes, one for one foot and second one for the other.

Just simple are a child's demand.
